40’s Night Concert – Change of Date

Hi all,

Just a quick note to let you know that the date for the 40’s night concert in the Legion Hall, Port Erin .. has changed subtly.

It was previously to be held on Friday the 12th October, but has now changed to Saturday 13th October.

I’ll assume for the moment that as it’s the same weekend, we’ll be able to manage a decent quorum.

Please let me know by return if you can’t make the date – Thanks a mill, Jem

Peel Cathedral – Take #2

Hi all,

Just a quick note to let you know that as Peel Cathedral is a more formal concert than many we take on, I’ve prepared a hand-out for the audience.  The cathedral team will be printing 75 of these – which fold up into 4 sides of A5.  It would be great if you could help swell our audience numbers by inviting friend and family etc. along to hear us.  Cheers Jem

p.s. – I haven’t had any replies yet to my birthday bash invites.  We’d like to get a rough idea of numbers so could you please let me know if you’re coming … and if so how many you’re bringing with you.  Ta.

Rehearsal Mon 30th July / Final Playlist

Hi all,

Please see below, the final playlist (in order) for our concert on Tuesday 31st July in Peel Cathedral.

Please make sure your music is stored in order in your folders so we don’t have delays in moving from one tune to another on the night.  Dress code on Tuesday is strictly uniforms – Fellas in black trousers and shoes, white shirts, MSE waistcoats – ladies in black lowers, MSE blouses.

We’ll take some pics both inside and outside the Cathedral on the Tuesday, so please make sure you’re there for 6:30pm for the photo session – Thanks.

On Mon 30th, we’ll rehearse as a minimum, the tunes in Blue below.  For the smaller group, I’m counting on you being confident in playing Persiflage and Gershwin’s Lullaby !

Lastly, I’m going to need some help taking stands and banners to / from the cathedral so all help gratefully received 🙂

Cheers Jem

Rehearsals & Team Photo, an upate …

Hi all,

A good point raised by Andres is response to my last message …

For the rehearsals at Eastcliffe this and next Monday, we are rehearsing in our own clothes, not in uniform.

On the night of the Peel concert though (Tues 31st July). we will wear our formal uniform.

I’d appreciate it if we could all turn up at the church in good time (6:30pm), to take some decent team photos both inside and outside of the church.

As a note, this would be in addition to the team photos that Jane Mooney is organising for us.

Cheers Jem

Peel Cathedral – July 31st – Draft Playlist & Rehearsal Notes

Hi all,

Please find below, the draft playlist for our upcoming concert at Peel Cathedral.

Note that I’ve dropped three tunes from the previous list – Yellow Dog Blue, Yesterday and The Muppets Theme (the last of which we performed at the Cathedral last year).  We’ve still got just over 60 minutes of music in the stack so we’re lookiing good to go.

We’ll rehearse the tunes in this order on Monday (23rd) – with the small group (Steph, Kyra, Dave, Guy, Ben and myself) practicing Persiflage as the kettle goes on for the break, and Gershwin’s Lullaby as we finish around 8:30pm.

Remember – The rehearsals this Monday and the night before the concert will all be held at Eastcliffe.  Thanks, Jem

Important – Rehearsals 23rd and 30th July are now at Eastcliffe !!!

Hi all,

I’ve just heard from Don Roworth at the cathedral, that they are unable to grant us rehearsal time on either of the Monday’s leading up to the concert (23rd / 30th).

Please can you let everyone else in the group know – as not everyone checks their emails / the website regularly and I want to avoid folks turning up at the wrong place.

I’m not overly pleased to find this out at such a late stage when we’d asked for the time on their booking form, but there’s little I can do to change it now.

Don has offered that we could use the cathedral for a rehearsal on a different night.  Given that I’m working in Belgium at the moment, that might also prove difficult but it’s worth asking I guess.

IOMWO has now ceased rehearsals for a summer break, so on the basis that some of the group are used to meeting on Thursdays, there’s a possibility that we could meet at the Cathedral on Thursday evening (26th July).

Can you please let me know if you would be able to make a rehearsal at the cathedral on Thurs 26th.  If so, we’ll probably do this instead of our normal rehearsal on the 30th.

Thanks, Jem

Rehearsal Monday 16th July – EASTCLIFFE !

Hi all,

Firstly, thanks for changing this week’s rehearsal to the Cathedral in Peel.

I thought it was an excellent rehearsal, and for me it established how well we can play given the right circumstances.  More of the same over the next few weeks please !

The coming rehearsal (16th July) will be held in Eastcliffe at the normal time (starting 6:30 pm).   We won’t have Ben with us, but I’ve arranged the playlist to accommodate this – I’ll play Bari, and there are no tunes featuring the Soprano.

We’ll concentrate on the tunes marked in Blue / Starred – but please have all the music to hand just in case.

A couple of changes to the draft playlist (see below) – I’ve added Londonderry Air into the mix – so please can you put the sheet music in your folders.  I’ve created an ‘Alto as Soprano’ part for Yesterday to help us practice it, and will bring the sheet music along with me.  … and we now have more tunes than we need so I’d like us to choose one of Basin Street Blues or Yellow Dog Blues – based on a play through on Monday.

See you at Eastcliffe.  Cheers Jem
