Just a quick reminder that we’re up for a rehearsal tonight. Ray can’t join us, so there are a couple of pieces we can’t run, but we’ll concentrate on the list below, plus “Simon Smith” if I get time to finish it off !
Doin’ the Voom Voom
Comedy for Saxophones
Just a quick reminder that we don’t have a rehearsal this coming week as I’m off to the adjacent isle for a medical once-over.
When we get back, I’d like to run in detail, Ja-Da and the first of the Three Mance Dances. Please can you make a special effort to run through these (with the aid of the supplied midi files ideally) to make sure you can play your part confidently.
From the 18th, we need to have our next concert in our sights, so I’d ask you to fill in the grid below with the part you normally play for each of the tunes listed. It’ll help me balance out the band and also plan our on-going sessions.
The easiest way to do this should be for you to copy the table into Word or similar, fill in the details, then email it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Lastly, May 25th is a Bank Holiday, so let’s plan to meet on the Tuesday again – which is the 26th. Please let me know asap if you can’t make the new date. ta.
See you on the 18th – cheers, Jem

Thanks for a good session last night. Aside from running through some pieces, I think the time spent on techniques should pay dividends in the long term.
…. if we practice them off-line that is 🙂
The list below is my draft playlist for the next concert which will be on Thurs July 2nd at Port Erin.
I’m reviewing the tunes where we have 2 tenor parts to make sure we can play them if one tenor is absent, but otherwise the list is pretty solid.
Note – “Simon Smith” is new, and I hope to have it with you by the next rehearsal on May 18th. (I have medical checks next week, so there’s no rehearsal on the 11th).
“Simon Smith” replaces “Lone Arranger” which was seen as a bit of a stretch for this term.
Note – This list gives us 50 minutes of playing time, so we’ll have some tunes in hand given that we need 40-45 minutes for a concert.
I’ll send out a separate note to check who is playing which part currently. Two important points to bear in mind though …
1) You should print out all parts for your instrument, and be able to competently fill in in case of another player being absent.
2) It’s up to you to play through all of the tunes from time to time (outside of rehearsal sessions) to ensure that you can play them confidently whenever they’re featured in rehearsals.
… When I hear “… but we haven’t played that one in a while”, it simply underlines that whoever said it hasn’t been practicing as they should 🙂
Have a good couple of weeks, and I’ll see you on the 18th.

Hope you enjoyed your Bank Holiday break.
We’re meeting at Whitestrand tonight (usual time) but without David as it’s his birthday.
There are no new tunes this week, and I’d like to spend some time on selected tunes where we can do some sectional work / look at ensemble techniques.
Please note that we won’t be able to hold a session next Monday (11th) as I’ll be across for the week on a medical visit.
This does mean that we need to plan the remaining sessions quite carefully and all do our best to make the most of each rehearsal as our first concert on July 3rd isn’t so far away (7 weeks remaining including a further bank holiday and both TT weeks !).
See you tonight. Cheers, Jem
